"As mulheres de sua família que vieram antes de você deixaram heranças de força, graça, resistência, amor incondicional. Una seu espírito ao delas e reivindique o legado delas." (Karen K.)
May 11th was Mother's Day in Brazil.
It's a day I remember my story and the women who came before me. I'm here, and today I'm a mother, because they decided, in times gone by, to have kids. And, in my paternal grandmother's case, there were quite a few (nine). On my mother's side, there were six.
My grandmothers were strong women, they lost daughters in their teens, they were widowed, and they remained steadfast in raising their children. I had little contact with my maternal grandmother; she passed away when I was one year old, and my mother was pregnant with her third daughter. There were many stories to tell and difficulties to overcome.
When my daughter was born, my mother had already passed away. I think the two of them would have gotten along very well. It turned out that some aunts acted as grandmothers to my daughter; one of them wrote a message to Leticia when she was a baby:
"The women in your family who came before you left legacies of strength, grace, resilience, and unconditional love. Unite your spirit with theirs and claim their legacy." (Karen K.)
That's what I celebrate on Mother's Day!
