Moro há 13 anos perto de um parque municipal com muitas árvores, de vez em quando eu via uma ou outra arara canindé por ali. E, também tucanos (mais raro). Mas, no último ano parece que as araras mudaram o comportamento e estão voando entre os prédios da região. Elas chegam em pares sempre no mesmo horário, ao entardecer, e pousam nas árvores e algumas palmeiras que ficam na rua ou nos terrenos das poucas casa que ainda se mantém em pé na cidade. É lindo vê-las voando e anunciando que estão ali. E, ao mesmo tempo, me preocupa vê-las se adaptando à vida urbana com o objetivo de sobreviverem.
O desmatamento contínuo no estado de Mato Grosso e as queimadas no parque da Chapada dos Guimarães afastaram as araras de seu habitat natural. Elas são aves que dispersam sementes e são fundamentais para manter florestas. Como isso se perpetua nas cidades cimentadas? Enquanto para nós é bonito vê-las sobrevoando entre prédios e casas, para elas pode ser um grito de socorro. Até quando continuaremos destruindo a natureza e retirando a possibilidade de vida de outros seres?

I´ve lived for 13 years near a municipal park with lots of trees. Every now and then I would see one or two blue-and-yellow macaws there. And also toucans (more rare). But in the last year, it seems that the macaws have changed their behavior and are flying between the buildings in the area. They arrive in pairs at the same time, at dusk, and land on the trees and some palm trees that are on the street or on the grounds of the few houses that are still standing in the city. It is beautiful to see them flying and announcing that they are there. And, at the same time, I am concerned to see them adapting to urban life in order to survive.
The ongoing deforestation in the state of Mato Grosso and the fires in the Chapada dos Guimarães park have driven the macaws away from their natural habitat. They are birds that disperse seeds and are essential for maintaining forests. How does this continue in concrete cities? While it is beautiful for us to see them flying between buildings and houses, for them it can be a cry for help. How long will we continue to destroy nature and take away the possibility of life for other beings?
