Como não terminei de contar sobre nossa viagem a Londres, realizada em outubro de 2016, resolvi voltar a escrever sobre alguns lugares que conhecemos. Durante nossa estada na cidade pegamos dias lindos de sol e frio, outros nublados, e somente um com garoa. Em nosso sétimo dia de passeio resolvemos visitar o Kew Gardens, o Jardim Botânico Real.
Mas antes de falar sobre este parque maravilhoso, achei importante falar um pouco sobre a região onde ele está localizado, pois é um lugar lindo. Kew faz parte de Richmond upon Thames, um dos trinta e dois distritos que formam a Grande Londres. Esta região está localizada a sudoeste de Londres, a poucos minutos do centro da cidade. Para chegar até lá você pode ir de carro, ônibus (159 e N9) ou de metro (District Line até Kew Gardens Station - Zona 4). Outra opção é pegar um barco de Westminster até Kew Pier. É um passeio de aproximadamente uma hora, no qual pode conhecer outras partes de Londres e de sua arquitetura.
Os primeiros registros dessa região são da época de Henrique VII, quando era chamado Kayhough, possível alusão à sua proximidade com o rio Tâmisa. Com o tempo o nome se alterou chegando a grafia atual, Kew. Durante a revolução francesa (1789-1799) muitos refugiados se estabeleceram na região, construindo muitas casas, ainda existentes.
Vale a pena andar pelas ruas desse "bairro", que hoje é uma área residencial, com muitas casas no estilo vitoriano, ruas arborizadas, restaurantes e um bom comércio. Nem parece que você está em Londres, é uma região bem tranquila. Amei o lugar!

As I have not finished telling you about our trip to London in October 2016, I decided to go back and write about some of the places we know. During our stay in the city we had beautiful days of sun and cold, others cloudy, and only one with drizzle. On our seventh day of trip we decided to visit Kew Gardens, the Royal Botanic Gardens of London.But before talking about this wonderful park, I found it important to talk a bit about the region where it is located, because it is a beautiful place. Kew is part of Richmond upon Thames, one of the thirty-two districts that make up Greater London. This region is located southwest of London, just 30 minutes from the city center. To get there you can go by car, bus (159 and N9) or subway (District Line to Kew Gardens Station - Zone 4). Another option is to take a boat from Westminster to Kew Pier. It is an approximately one hour tour, in which you can visit other parts of London and its architecture.
The first records of this region are from the time of Henry VII, when it was called Kayhough, possible allusion to its proximity with the river Thames. Over time the name changed to the current spelling, Kew. During the French Revolution (1789-1799) many refugees settled in the region, building many, still existing houses.
It's worth walking on the streets of this "neighborhood", which is now a residential area with many Victorian-style houses, tree-lined streets, restaurants, and good shopping. It does not look like you're in London, it's a very quiet place. I loved it!
